For the first week of Design 241: Mixed Realities, we were introduced to the different type of realities that we are able to create using various technology.
For this week's technical experiment, we were asked to make a face filter of our own!
Using the free software AR Spark Studio which allows us to create an augmented reality experience through face filters, these face filters can then later on be uploaded to social media for others to use and interact with if we so choose to share them.
By searching up and viewing some helpful tutorials on YouTube and the lecturers during class, I was able to make my filter. I used a light retouching effect to give the person a more clear and smooth appearance and then I added a demon-like half mask that I imported from sketch fab on top to cover the bottom half of the person's face.
What I found difficult was the resizing of the mask, as the dimensions were completely different from that of the person's face. There were many intricate parts to this mask which made the resizing tricky for me, as well as struggling to navigate the user interface of AR Spark Studio.
This is a video of me trying out my finished filter. I look a bit tired because I
stayed up the majority of the night
trying to figure out how to use AR Spark Studio and playing around with it as well.
I'll continue using this software as it was enjoyable to make and I want to see what other filters I could possibly make.
