This week for Des 241: Mixed Realities, we were introduced to Vuforia within Unity.

The use of Vuforia allowed us to detect images and place an image on them. I chose to post about this as I found it very interesting to learn and with some guidance, it was pretty enjoyable to do as well.

Following one of our lecturers Prasanth's Vuforia tutorial, I managed to place a cube on top of the default Vuforia image of an astronaut off of my phone as shown by the screenshot I took of my laptop screen. By using the default astronaut picture that comes with Vuforia, I was able to put a 3D object in this case a cube under the image target which meant that every time that the AR camera detected the astronaut image, the cube would pop up on top of the image in an augmented reality. I found this really fascinating and cool to experience.

To further this Vuforia tutorial, I changed the cube to an animated butterfly and this is a video I recorded off of my laptop, capturing the animation of the butterfly as the astronaut image was detected by the AR camera.
