To create the most expressive and versatile wind instrument available to today's musicians. Building upon the legacy of the original Electronic Wind Instrument, Akai Professional created EWI5000 with the same objective in mind.

My favourite design would be AKAI's EWI 5000, short for Electronic Wireless Instrument is considered a self-contained unit and is very versatile. I favour this instrument as it is designed as it can be plugged in to your computer and treated as a MIDI input for music producing and editing software, so you can play virtually any sound you want such as samples and piano as well as being played like a normal instrument besides changing the batteries for it every once in a blue moon which I don't mind, though if you don't wish to change them, the instrument can make a great ornament.
I think that the EWI 5000 is also good for practicing when you don't have your instrument on hand or if it is too big to carry around the EWI would is specifically made for portability and convenience which caught my attention to the instrument. As a saxophone player, I would specifically recommend this instrument to other saxophone players as the price range of alto saxophones which is the most commonly played out of the saxophone family, run at least two grand for cheap ones whereas the price of EWI runs for about half the amount.
The EWI is a very good substitute for the saxophones when trying to practice as it a has a volume feature where the volume can be adjusted whereas normal instruments are loud and would cause trouble if practicing at night or when you're trying not to wake anyone up. I find this extremely fascinating because I have dealt with the recurring problem and considered buying one of those expensive mutes so that I could practice with ease. With the fingering similar to the woodwind fingering, I think that the electronic instrument is a nice stand in as it imitates the same holding feeling but I would say that it can't creating the whole experience of the a normal instrument as the keys are sensitive to touch and are not able to be pressed down.
EWIs are designed for convenience and focuses on giving a realistic experience of instruments like saxophones and oboes to people who are not able to afford such instruments as they can be quite expensive. It also opens up to working with music software such as Fruitloops. I would recommend this instruments to those that would like to try playing a new instrument for a more reasonable price.
